Each member enjoys one vote during general assemblies. The vote of non-African citizens members, of foreign companies members (i.e. with more than 50% of their shares own by non-African citizens) and foreign organizations members( i.e. without a representation or an office in Africa) will count for 20% of the total votes. Companies and organizations vote through their representative known to FAPI Africa, i.e. the representative who fills the Membership form.

Like Simple Members of the African Community (SMAC), African External members may apply to be considered for a loan package. They must apply in witting. Simple Members of the African Community are not effective members of FAPI Africa and do not vote.

Simple Members of the African Community (SMAC)

Simple Members of the African Community, in short SMAC are non-married, mature African individuals or African families represented by one of the partners, registered with FAPI Africa. They are the prime beneficiaries of the UBUNTU 2025 loan program. SMACs are not effective members of FAPI Africa and do not vote. To be registered as a SMAC, the applicant must fill the Form no. 1 and must choose the Simple status on that form. SMACs contribute monthly $2.5 on average, depending on their countries economical situation, towards a program that may benefit them directly through the remittance of a loan package for housing, a business development and a saving plan, or indirectly by creating the necessary conditions for personal empowerment within a country. Payments by SMACs and African External Members should in anyway be considered as a guarantee for the loan but they make an individual or the family eligible for the loan. However, FAPI Africa goal is to reach 100% of poor families in Africa with loans and 8.33% of adult individuals by 2025. This of course will depend on the will of Africans for getting out of their misery and on the world solidarity.

To be eligible for the loan, SMACs and African External Members must have reached at least $ 30 in contributions. Loans are distributed according to the order of arrival of applications and the level of necessity of the applicants. Selected families receive a loan of $45,000 and individuals $15,000. The married woman is 60% co-owner of the loan received by her family. Single women are eligible for 60% of the loans destined to individuals. Families repay the loans with monthly installments of $150, while individuals repay their loans with monthly installments of $50. The good news is that the interests or the rent from part of the money from the loan deposited as guarantee in the bank or invested in a property cover most of the repayments.

The recipients of the loans agree to use the loans as follow:

Families

To guarantee a sustainable development, families will spend the money received strictly in the following manner:

About $ 15, 000.00 will purchase or build a family house; $ 5, 000.00 will be invested in a business; $ 5,000.00 will be deposited with banks to provide a regular income from interests every year, and $ 20, 000 will be saved with financial institutions or placed in a property to generate a regular income that will repay a loan that requires small repayments over a long period of time. The money or the property will be returned to the family as long-term savings once the repayment of the loan is completed. A small percentage of the profit on the family business is directed towards the repayment of the loan and to the long-term saving plan. FAPI Africa has a program to train beneficiaries in starting and managing their businesses.

Individuals

Individuals over 21 years of age are eligible for $ 15 000 that he/she agree to use as follow:

$ 5 000.00 will be directed to housing and/or business; $ 10 000.00 will be saved with financial institutions or placed in a property to generate a regular income that will repay a loan that requires small repayments over a long period of time. The money or the property will be returned to the individual as long-term savings once the repayment of the loan is completed. A small percentage of the profit on the business is also directed towards the repayment of the loan and to the long-term saving plan. FAPI Africa has a program to train individuals in starting and managing their businesses.
